If  you travel not far north in Cebu, you would discover a place called Compostela found between Liloan and Danao City.  The place is named after the place  where   their  saint , Santiago  de Apostle was buried in Spain. The earliest explanation of the meaning of the word Compostela is that it comes from the Latin Campus Stellae meaning ‘field of stars’ referring to strange lights near the tomb though other explanations have since been given. If you ask the locals of how the name of Compostela came to be, they would definitely answer that the place was once a camp site of the Spaniards during the times that  the Philippines was under the rule of Spain. "Kampo sa KATSILA" as they would call it and as time pass, the name was changed and came to be COMPOSTELA.
Eventhough Compostela might not be that famous when it comes to beautiful falls and sand beaches and delicious delicacies.  And though political issues are often associated with the place, there is one thing that brings pride to every Compostelahanons and that is the green and luscious mountains found in the town. The Influential people of Compostela have  taken advantage of the mountains. They  have come up with a project that would be of use to the Compostelahanons in the ways of religion and nationality and  in the ways of leisure and recreation.

Q Park is an on-going project of Norberto Quisumbing Jr.’s family and the Norkis Group. It is “A legacy to the Filipino people and a place to remember” as the owners call it.It is a 200-hectare land situated and covering up four barangays .It has been dedicated to the use of the community, including pilgrims and curiosity seekers from other places, from the first day of its existence. It is entirely free of charge. All that is asked of the public is that the place be afforded due respect, kept free of litter and unworthy behavior, and its uses and benefits offered to as many fellow Filipinos and Christians as word of mouth can reach. It is open every day from 8 o’clock in the morning up to 7 o’clock in the evening. Since the complex is under development, everyone is advised to be careful always.

WHAT'S IN???

The Heroes’ Hill in Q Park , which is about a hectare in size, is only open by invitation or by request. It is not totally open to the public because they want to maintain it as a sacred and peaceful place. It is a place to give tribute to unknown soldiers, OFW’s and awardees of the Filipino Foundation from 1986-2003. An anahaw-roofed kiosk is visible inside the hill. It contains portraits of Filipino Statesmen and Philippine Presidents. The area is full of wonderful flowers and fish ponds.

The Stations of the Cross at Q Park is easily the visitors’ favorite and the park’s centerpiece. It was also the first phase of the park to be completed in  2005 and continues to be the park’s main magnet. During holy week the park is crowded with thousands of devotees. It is perfect place  for repentance of sins.

Marian Hill.
In December of 2007, the monument of  a  huge (41ft.) statue of the Blessed Virgin, under the title of Mary, Mother of Love, Peace and Joy was added.  At a thousand feet above sea level, the new Marian image could be seen over the surrounding hills, serve as a symbol that Mother Mary is watching over the homes of her children. A stone stairway with over 300 steps leads to the shrine from the chapel below, while those not up to the challenge may use an access road to the concrete overlook. It has been said though that  often when the stars align in the crown of Mother Mary, dusts of silver flows down from the statue.
THE MAZE
